THE DEADLIEST WAR EVER. [Part 1]

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, A treaty ( Treaty of versailles) was signed ending the deadliest war ever known ( was it? ), the World War 1. It killed about 16 million people and millions more were affected mentally. It was also known as the The Great War, turning the world into a mere slaughterhouse.

The war to end all wars

-Woodrow wilson

The reason behind the Great War must be very big, right ? Well, I don’t think so, it could have been stopped if a person had been late for few seconds or if he had a good driver and luck( interested in knowing what happened? Read about Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his death story). So, the Treaty was signed to bring Peace (a kind of peace after death), to end the most DEADLIEST war and to make sure it never happens again .  So, was the Treaty successful ? Was there Peace ?

Treaty of Versailles ” A Failure”

This treaty led to the rise of a person who was the antonym of peace, a person who thought that his country could have won the war, a person who thought that his country’s leaders were cowards, a person who was against democracy, a person who would come to be known as “The Führer”, a person who in the future would lead  a WAR deadlier and bloodier than the Great War itself. ADOLF HITLER, the person responsible for a war that killed about 3% of the world population ( at that time) which is about 5 times the casualties  in World War I. This was called WORLD WAR II, the deadliest war ever …. Was it ?

“I am now fifty. I would rather have the war now than when I am fifty-five or sixty”

-Adolf hitler

What if I tell you that there was a war deadlier than WWI or WWII, or even both combined, absurd ? Well, the answer is NO-ONE KNOWS ( again, at least not in this world). There are some pre-historians who believe in such kind of WAR. A war which wiped out all our first relatives( us i.e. the homo sapiens). A war that led to the extinction of all the other ‘Homo’ species. Well, I believe in this IMAGINED REALITY and I urge you to THINK, and then decide about the few stories I am going to tell you, because believing in stories makes us more united ( you will know in few minutes).

Ever heard that cats, tigers and lions belong to the same FAMILY (Felidae)? Moreover, tigers and lions belong to the same GENUS (panthera). What does this mean ? Family, like brother and sister ? (The branch of Biology that deals with this hierarchy and stuff is known as TAXONOMY). Let me tell you in Layman’s terms, GENUS means like BROTHER and SISTER i.e. the closest relative(same parents),  FAMILY is like cousins’ or the second relatives(same GRAND-PARENTS) and the hierarchy goes on…. So, cats and lions are like cousins’ and lions and tigers are like siblings. We, humans (Homo sapiens) have chimpanzees and gorillas as our cousins’ (sounds weird) i.e. we shared the same grand-parents (GREAT APES). What about are siblings ? Were we the only child of our parents (homo) ? If no, then who were our siblings and what happened to them ?

We were not the only child of our parent. we had siblings, not one or two but many. To name a few, Homo Neanderthals (the strong one) , Homo Erectus (the intelligent and oldest one), Homo Floresiensis (the dwarf) and then there were us, Homo sapiens ( the wise one). What happened to our siblings ? Why did only we survive and others didn’t ? Well, there are two imagined realities pre-historians believed in.

First, Inter-breeding. We share 6-9% DNA with homo-neanderthals and they might had gone extinct in accordance with Darwin’s law of survival. Second, a WAR between Siblings, a war that killed a whole species of brothers, A war that was more bloodier and deadlier than WW1 and WW2 combined (was it the deadliest? ), a war reminding us that it is not the fittest that survive, it is the smartest and the ANTI-FRAGILE that survives….

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

-charles darwin

A war between Brothers or Inter-breeding. Well, I believe more in former. We share 50% of our DNA with bananas it might be because all organisms share a common ancestor, so do we and neanderthals.

Now why would a war happen between siblings or, more importantly, how could Homo Sapiens have even won? Homo sapiens were known to be the weakest  and winning against Neanderthals was highly odd.Neanderthals were more physically strong. So how did we win? Curious ?  Just go to next post to know more about the Deadliest war ever (??).

To Be Continued…

  1. Why in the first place Neanderthals and Sapiens had to fight?
They could have survived together according to Interbreeding Theory.
